TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHT
CROSSING BY THE CODOCK. FLIGHT PROBABLE AT WEEK-END. It is expected that the recently-built Codock monoplane, built at Sydney to the order of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, will arrive at New Plymouth from Sydney on Saturday. No definite date has yet been set down for the crossing, however, and the machine may fly a little later than the week-end.
The plane will be piloted by SquadronLeader T. W. White, formerly o£ Timaru, who will have Mr. A. Foster, of the R.M.S. Niagara, as navigator and radio operator. Mr. Foster has been loned by the Union Company for the flight. The machine will land at the New Plymouth aerodrome for a few minutes to be checked and will then proceed to the Mangere aerodrome, Auckland. Final tests for the flight are being made at Melbourne by Squadron-Leader White and Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Mr. S. E. Nielson, secretary of the New Plymouth Aero Club, who returned on Tuesday from a business trip to Australia, told a News reporter that the Codock machine was one of the finest he had seen. While in Australia he thoroughly inspected the plane and was satisfied that it could make the Tasman crossing without trouble.
