WESTOWN SCHOOL AFFAIRS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Westown school committee met on Tuesday night, when there yrere present Messrs. L. T. Aylwood (chairman), D. C. Potts, F. W. Marsden, J. M. Poynter, G. W. Turnbull and J. W. Darby (hon. secretary). The headmaster, Mr. W. L. Wagstaff, reported that the number on the roll on March 18 was 247. During the month three had been admitted and six withdrawn, making the present roll number 244. The average attendance for .the month had been 230.2. The school had filled second place in the district school sports, thus winning the runner-up cup for the second year in succession. The inspectors, Messrs. Bain and Henry, visited the school on March 23. Individual towels had been instituted and a big improvement in school hygiene thus effected. The headmaster thanked parents for their ready co-operation in that matter. The collection of the dental clinic fees had been completed.
The reports of the Scoutmaster, Mr. L. Hedges, and the Cubmistress, Miss A. Elliot, were received. The draft of the annual report and statement of accounts to be presented at the annual meeting of householders was approved.
