SMARTEST YET INSPECTED

PRAISE FOR TIKORANGI TROOPS. GENERAL NEWS FROM DISTRICT. A special parade of the Tikorangi troop of Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifle* was held in the Waitara Drill Hall recently. Lieut.-Colonel Gibbs recently appointed officer in command of the regiment made his first inspection of th* troop. Lieut-Colonel Gibbs was accompanied by the adjutant Lieut Henry, Hawera, and a staff officer, Major Conway, New Plymouth. Captain E. R. Harford, O.C. C Squadron, Lieut. Surrey, O.C. Tikorangi Troop, and SergeantMajor Bell, New Plymouth, were also present at the inspection.

Addressing the troop after the inspection, Lieut.-Colonel Gibbs expressed satisfaction with the parade and commented favourably upon the smart appearance of the unit. Major Conway endorsed Lieut.-Colonel GibbgJ, remarks and congratulated Captain Harford and Lieut. Surrey. on the efficiency of th® troops. He said that it was the best turned-out parade he had . inspected since he had taken office at New Plymouth six years ago. Following the parade the officers and men were entertained by the Waitara platoon of the Taranaki Regiment. A large congregation attended th® harvest festival service conducted by th® Rev. Fussell at St. Luke’s church, Tikorangi, on Sunday afternoon. The church had been effectively decorated by a number of the young members of the congregation on Saturday. Reconstruction work has begun at th® Tikorangi dairy factory. Workmen have made a start oi the temporary stand where the milk will, be received during alterations.

Miss N. Langley, now residing in th® Waikato, has been the guest of Mrs. L. Sarten and is now the guest of Mrs. G. Wills.
