MINOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES

PREVALENCE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. POLICE COMMENT IN COURT. “There are more breaches of regulations committed by motorists at New Plymouth than in any other town in New Zealand in proportion to the population,” said Senior-Sergeant E. T. C. Turner at the Magistrate’s Court, New Plymouth, yesterday, during the course of a series of prosecutions against motorists for minor offences. George Edward Clout, who drove his car at night without headlights, was ordered to pay 10s costs. J. S. Medley who failed to give way

to a vehicle on the right was ordered to pay 10s costs. G. W. Stubbs, Teiti Te Koea and Thomas Young were each fined 10s for cutting corners.

James Conway, who pleaded not guilty and disputed Constable L. E. W. Mitchell’s evidence as to his speed on a charge of speeding across an intersection, was convicted and fined 10s with costs 10s. On a charge of having no tail light at night Conway was convicted and discharged. William Edward Bennett was fined 5s with costs 10s for driving a motor-car at night with no tail light burning. Leonard Wylie Blanchard. Tataraimaka.

Gordon Butler, Noel Gardiner and Leonard Loveridge, similarly charged, were fined 5s with costs 10s, and R. F. Shepherd was ordered to pay 10s costs only. Blanchard’s offence was in respect of a motor-cycle.

C. C. Gilbert and T. J. Griffin, who parked their cars within six feet of fire plugs, were each ordered to pay MB costs.
