BRITISH MONETARY SYSTEM

INVESTIGATIONS NOT NECESSARY. STATEMENT BY THE CHANCELLOR. British Wireless. Rugby, April 11. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, does not consider that any useful purpose would be served by setting up a committee to report on alternatives to the present monetary system. This statement was made in the House of Commons in reply to a question suggesting that a new inquiry be undertaken because the McMillan Committee, which reported in 1931, had examined the monetary policy only on the basis of the gold standard and did not examine or discuss any alternative.
