MAN FALLS OVER CLIFF

ACCIDENT WHILE SHOOTING. GIDDY TURN PROBABLE REASON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, April 2. Frank Hodge, aged 19, of Sydenham, fell over a cliff 800 ft. high while shooting near Cass yesterday and died from injuries. A companion, C. J. Richardson, could not rescue him and went for help several miles. The body was recovered this morning after an arduous climb. Hodge and Richardson were crossing over to the Hawdon Stream when they apparently stopped on the ridge to look around. A giddy turn is believed to have overtaken Hodge and he fell over the edge, receiving severe head injuries. The accident happened between 2.30 p.m. and ‘3 o’clock yesterday. At the time Richardson found himself unable to reach his companion down the cliff and he returned to Cass for assistance. For some time it was not known whether Hodge had been killed. The police state that death' was immediate.
