PRINCIPAL AUCKLAND EVENT JONATHAN HAS ANOTHER VICTORY. RED MANFRED’S GREAT NORTHERN. BIFORM WINS AUTUMN STEEPLES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting concluded at Ellerslie to-day. The weather continued to be fine and there was a large attendance. The track was very fast. The totalisator handled £41,191 10s, against £43,791 on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £2599 10s. The total for the meeting was £76,773 10s, compared with £82,678 last year, a decrease of £5904 10s. Results are:— G.N. ST. LEGER STAKES. Of £450. One mile and three-quarters. 2— RED MANFRED, 8.10 (Atkins) .... 1 1— SPIRAL, 8.10 (Ellis) 2 4—WEROHIA, 8.10 (Goulsbro) 3 Also started: 5 Melisande, 8.8 (fourth); 3 D’Artagnan, 8.10. Werohia led by a length and a-half along the top, with Spiral, Melisande, Red Manfred and D’Artagnan in that order. Werohia and Spiral ran neck and neck into the straight and in an exciting finish Red Manfred stayed on well to win by half a length from Spiral. Werohia was a length away third. Time, 3m. 2 2-ss. The field got away to a good start. King Ford was a length in front of Hampton Park, Puss Moth, British Columbia, Pomp and Jonathan at the turn.
