MOUNTAIN HOUSES BENEFIT. “BEST SINCE THE DEPRESSION.” There were record attendances at North Mt. Egmont and Dawson Falls hostels at the week-end. - The manager at Dawson Falls, Mr. P. Murphy, said the crowds were the best since the depression started. At North Egmont, Mr. H. Nodder, who will leave the hostel on Wednesday to take up a fresh appointment, received a great-send-off, as it were,.in the number of people visiting the hostel. Mr. Nodder said there had not been better attendances in the five Easter periods he had been at the hostel At a conservative estimate 1000 persons visited North Egmont in the three-day period ending yesterday. There were 70 cars with an average of four persons each, a of motor-cycles and a few hikers yesterday. The mountain was alive with visitors. At Dawson Falls hostel there are 150 in residence. The Ruahine Club, Palmerston North, has 20 members under canvas near the camp house, which is occupied by 55 members of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club. At the Syme Hut the Egmont Alpine Club has 20 members in residence while 20 members of each of the Auckland and Manawatu Tramping Clubs are occupying two separate huts. Everybody was climbing and it was hard work on the Fantham’s Peak side because of the hard ice, the result of recent snow. ' '
