Mr. J. G. Wilson, Mayor of Pahiatua, and Mrs. Wilson have been visiting New Plymouth. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. for Egmont, who is spending the Easter vacation at his Pukearuhe residence, attended the Waitoitoi Beach races on Saturday. Mr. Leslie Lefeaux, governor of the Reserve Bank, who has been spending a few days at New Plymouth, will leave for the south . this morning, visiting Dawson’s Falls en route.

Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, is staying at the Criterion Hotel, New Plymouth. The death has occurred of Lord Novar, aged 74, ex-Govemor-General of Australia, states a I ondon cable. Lord Novar was Governor-General in Australia from 1914 to 1920 and was secretary for Scotland from 1922 to 1924. He has no heirs.

Amongst the spectators at the Hawke Cup cricket match on Saturday were Mr. Leslie Lefeaux, governor of the New Zealand Reserve Lank, and Mr. J. Brodie, ex-secretary of the Taranaki Cricket Association, who has been seriously ill for some years. Mr. Brodie, who is now regaining his health, was the guest of the cricket association at the match.

Three employees of Wilson and Horton, Limited, Auckland, retired on Saturday on the completion of long terms of continuous service. Mrt W. Davison, who joined the office staff in 1886, has a record of over 47 years in the commercial and advertising departments of the New Zealand Herald and the Auckland Weekly News. Mr. D. R. Salmon entered the job composing department in 1687, and has for many years been employed in the newsroom. Mr. F. Rowe, J.P., has served for over 33 years on thia commercial staff. They will retire on pensions provided from the fund established by the company a few years ago for the benefit of its long-service employees.
