RIOT AT BOXING MATCH. FRENCH POLICE TAKE VOTE. Paris, March 13. Riotous scenes were witnessed at the conclusion of a boxing contest at Lille last night, when the public overruled the referee’s verdict by taking a vote and awarding the fight to the opponent of the boxer whom the refeiee had declared the winner Pandemonium broke loose when the referee’s decision was announced, the crowd bombarding the ring with bottles, chairs and other missiles. An attempt was made to set fire to the platform. The police rushed to the scene and succeeded in restoring order, but only after the police officer in command had assured the spectators that a vote would be taken on the outcome of the fight. The vote resulted in a reversal of the referee’s verdict by an overwhelming majority.
