GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL NEED
RESTRICTED ACCOMMODATION. NECESSITY FOR ENLARGEMENT. “The extension of the school building should be considered if the efficiency of the school is to be maintained, stated the Principal of the New Plymouth Girls High School (Miss D. N. Allan) m touching on the question of overcrowding in her report to the High Schools Board last night Miss Allan stated that the inspectors (Miss Hetherington and Mr. E J. Farr) and the Director of Education had just visited the school. All three had commented on the fact that the school was overcrowded. There were 134 girls in the school staking a commercial course and yet the typewriting room would hold only 24 machines. The sewing room had to be used as an ordinary class room, and the art classes had to be taken in the various class rooms as no room could be set aside as a studio. _ The chairman (Mr. H. R. Billing) asked Miss Allan if the board should send a copy of her report to the department. Miss Allan: I do not know whether it is of any use. The accommodation is too Restricted for good working. The chairman said he did not think there was much hop* in view of the expenditure on the new building,
