KOHURATAHI DISTRICT NEWS

WORK ON KOHURATAHI SADDLE. A meeting of the Kohuratahi-Whitianga Sports Club was held on Saturday night, Mr. Gower presided. There was a fair attendance of members. The secretary reported that the sports meeting had yielded a profit of approximately £6, half of which will be donated to the' medical association. Mr. Gower congratulated the club on its financial position, and appreciation of public support was expressed by all members. Men from the single men’s camp are doing good work on the Kohuratahi Saddle Road, which for years has been notorious for sharp bends with poor visibility. A beginning has been made to shift portion of the Waipuna camp to its new position on the Putikituna Road, where it is intended to start metalling operations from a base camp at the metal deposit. During progress of the recent school sports Mr. G. V. Pearce, ex-member for Patea, made a donation of prize money for infants’ races. Mr. McAloon, Huiakama, will also give two medals for competition. For some time telephone linesmen have been rebuilding the main line between Whangamomona and Tahora. The work has now been completed. Improvement jobs in the Kohuratahi district are being carried out
