TOWN HALL TOWER REMOVAL

EARTHQUAKE SAFETY MEASURE WELLINGTON COUNCIL DECISION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington City Council has decided to remove the Town Hall tower to the roof level and the whole of a large portico, except the steps, and the platform, as an earthquake safety measure. Balustrades ana other ornamentation will also - be removed. The large clock in the tower presented by the late Mr. John Blundell, will probably be dismantled and as no suitable new position has been suggested for it.
