WOMEN’S DIVISION.

Hurworth: The branch held its monthly meeting in the Hurworth hall on Thursday afternoon. The president gave a brief outline of the business transacted at thfe executive meeting hel( jL at New Plymouth on February 9. Mrs. Platt; a'member of the Midhirst branch, was introduced. She had com e to demonstrate the making of paper flowers, such as zinnias and poppies, etc. Before the afternoon was over some members had flowers completed before s^ rt ” ing for home. Cardiff: The monthly meeting was held at the Cardiff hall on Wednesday, when there was a large attendance, in the absence of Mrs. Brunton, the president, Mrs- P. , Marchant took the chair. The competition for the best decorated ya.sp whs won by Mrs. Snnth> MTS* Percy Marchant’s entry being placed second. Mrs. Shannon gave an interesting address on poultry and showed how poultry-keeping could be made a profitable sideline. Mckoia-Whakamara: The monthly meeting of the Mokoia-Whakamara branch was held at Mbkoia on Wednesday, Mrs. S. P. Buckrell presiding over a large attendance. Mrs. Marsh, Mrs. Buckrell and Mrs. Barkla were appointed delegates to the provincial executive meeting at Hawera-. Mrs. Kerrisk, Ohangai, gave a demonstration of gloveX. Mrs. Buckrell thanked Mrs. Kerrisk for her very able address. Miss Dawn Smeaton and Master James Williams presented Mrs. Kerrisk with posies. Fraser Road: There was a very good attendance •at the monthly meeting of the Fraser Road branch and those present had a busy and interesting afternoon. Mrs.’ L. Jennings (president) on behalf of the branch farewelled MrsVickridge* who is to leave shortly for England, and presented her with a posyIt was decided to hold a euchre party in support of the country queen candidate in the Hawera festival on the first available date. A committee was appointed to arrange for the holding of the branch’s first birthday party. Members contributed liberally towards a “bring and buy” and gift scheme to assist a necessitous family in the district Mrs. Galbraith reported on the business transacted at the executive meeting .at Hawera. The remainder of the meeting was devoted to making dress forms, .those members who had attended Miss Macmillan’s course during last winter instructing the other members.

Egmont Village: The monthly meeting was held on Saturday, which marked the second birthday of the branch. Instead of the usual party a picnic was held in Mr. J. O. Morton's river paddock. There was a large attendance of members and children and the menfolk organised races and games, Winners of the various races were: Small girls, Loma Adamson; girls, Shirley Marsh; small boys, Russell Meuli; boys, Alan Meuli; single ladies, Miss Doris Tebbutt; married ladies, Mrs. G. Marsh; consolation race, Irene Fergusson. Bathing was enjoyed by some and rounders were played in a nearby padock. Afternoon tea was made and served on the bank <?f the river, which is very picturesque at this spot. Soft drinks were also served and there was plenty of fruit. • • Mokau-Awakino: The. second birthday of the Mokau-Awakino branch of the Women’s Division was held at Awakino on Thursday,' when visitors were present from the Pio Pio and Okau-Ahititi-Tongaporutu branches. Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., and Mrs. Broadfoot, Te Kuiti, and Mrs. C. K. Wilson, Pio Pio, were present by special invitation. A programme of musical items was much enjoyed. Mrs. -Beattie and Miss B. Sampson (pianoforte solos), Miss M. Ormond (vocal solo); Miss J. McNeice and Mrs. E. Carrington (duet)' contributed. A competition; musical wedding, was won by Mrs. H. Purcell. ... Mrs. W. ■D. Black, president - of the branch, welcomed the visitors. Mrs. H. Lewis, 1 president of the Ahititi-Okau-Tongaporutu branch, and Mrs. Cullen, president of the Pio Pio branch, brought greetings. Mrs. C. K. Wilson, founder of the Pio Pio branch, spoke at length on the advantages of the Division to country women. Mr. Broadfoot addressed the meeting and Mr. N. Bryant, president of the Farmers’ Union, also spoke.’ A large birthday cake made and donated by Mrs. H. Price was cut by Mrs, N. Bryant. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the local branch. Lepperton: In Mrs. H. B.Leppers beautiful grounds the Lepperton branch held a garden party on Thursday in aid of the community chest funds. There was a large attendance, including visitors from the neighbouring branches. In one corner of the lawn a stall under the supervision of Mesdames P. A. Openshaw and P Sampson did good business. An iced cake made by Miss Doris Hellier and iced by Mrs. A. Kilpatrick was won by Mrs. R. Paul. Two pencil and paper competitions arranged by Mrs. H. B. Lepper were won by Mrs. E. W. Hellier and rMs. Harrison. Golf croquet was played, and a competition for the best article for the stall, the material not to cost more than Is, was won by Mrs. E. Hellier. Mrs H E. Blyde, president, thanked Mrs. Lenner for her hospitality and welcomed the visitors. !
