Archbishop Mannix, Melbourne, and other prelates left Sydney by the Mariposa on Wednesday for .Auckland to attend the diamond jubilee of Archbishop Redwood’s consecration as bishop, says a cable message. Machin junr., who has been advertising manager and aviation officer for the Canterbury district for the Vacuum Oil Proprietary, has been notified of his appointment to manager for New Zealand with his station at the Wellington head office. He is taking the place of Mr. B. Shiel, who has been transferred to Australia.

Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Secretary for the Colonies, who has been lying ill at Nairobi with a septic throat, is now well on the way to recovery and if his progress is maintained no further bulletin will be issued, says a British Official Wireless message. Lady Cunliffe-Lister has arrived at Nairobi by air from London.

On the completion of 50 years on the stage Sir Henry Lytton received a presentation on Tuesday night, states a British Official Wireless message. The presentation was made on behalf of the admirers of Lytton’s interpretations in Gilbert and Sullivan operas by Mr. Lloyd George, who paid high tribute to his artistry.

The death has occurred of Dr. Bernard Hollander, a London specialist in mental and nervous diseases, says a London cable. He was 70 years of age. Dr. Hollander, who had a distinguished medical career and an international reputation, was born at Vienna, but was a naturalised British subject. He was founder and president of the Ethological Society and an ex-president of the International Society of Philology, Science and High Arts. He was a former editor of the Ethological Journal. He had published very many works on mental and nervous disorders.

Mr. A. K. Anderson, headmaster of St. Andrew’s College, has been appointed principal of Scots College, Sydney, from more than 30 applicants, the applications coming from England, Australia and New Zealand, says a Christchurch Press Association message. Mr. Anderson will assume his new position in January, 1935. Scots College is a leading Presbyterian boys’ college in New South Wales, and one of the State’s great public schools. Mr. Anderson was appointed headmaster of St. Andrew’s in 1920. He was then 28 years of age and the youngest principal in any secondary school in Australia or Nev/ Zealand. He was a member of the University Entrance Board and president of the Association of Headmasters of Registered Secondary Schools in New Zealand. His career as headmaster of St. Andrew’s has been one of marked success.
