CENTRAL SCHOOL JUBILEE
SPECIAL COMMITTEES APPOINTED.
Good progress in the work connected with the Central school jubilee was reported at a meeting of the general committee at New Plymouth last night. Mr. F. A. Coleman presided over an attendance of 34 members. The recommendations of the finance committee regarding the raising of money for the jubilee expenses were approved by the meeting, matters to be put in hand immediately. The work of the secretaries, Messrs. Feakins and Shepherd, having become more than they could conveniently manage, Mr. F. S. Nicholson was appointed as a third, or. organising, secretary. The meeting decided that the control of each- day’s activities was to be in the hands of a sub-committee of approximately seven, a separate committee for each day. Each committee was granted power to add to its numbers. The following committees were elected:— Sunday (church service): Mrs. Bennett, Miss Civil, Messrs. L. Blanchett, F. A. Coleman, Turner, Hammond and Huggett (convenor). Monday (opening ceremony and community singing): Mesdames Bell-.- and Kelchert, Messrs. Coleman (convenor), Hopkins, Turner, Feakins, S. G. Smith, and S. Ward. .. Tuesday (old girls’ social): Mesdames S. G.-Smith-(convenor), Bennett, Grant, Hunter, Huggett, Feakins and Julian and Miss Civil. Wednesday (old boys’ smoke concert): Messrs. Dunkley (convenor), Feakins, Nicholson, F. Whitcombe, S. G. Smith, T. Smith, C. Steffenson, Revell, Wall, S. Ward, C. Grant, J- Harvey, D. P. Evans, H. Moon, w. Roch, T. Petty and P. Hopkins. Wednesday afternoon (entertainment of old girls); Lady members of executive of Home and School Association, and including Mesdames Feakins, Julian, Holder, Hunter, Huggett, Bennett, Bell and Kelchert, Misses Civil and M. Olsen. Thursday (jubilee ball): Messrs. Huggett (convenor); Turner, Holder, Hodder, S. G. Smith, Carter, Roberts, Wade, Potter, Revell, R. George, W. Way, R. Lealand, H, Moverley, R. Ford, Nicholson, L. Blanchett, Grant, Aldous, Mesdames S. G. Smith, Bennett, Bell, Kelchert, Huggett, Feakins, Julian, Holder, Hunter, Misses Civil and M. Olsen. Friday (entertainment of present-day pupils): Mr. Evans (convenor) and staff, and ladies of the executive of the Home and School Association.
Saturday: Left to executive committee. . It was suggested by Mr. D. P. Evans, and adopted by the meeting, that about forty men of New Plymouth interested in the school should be approached to guarantee perhaps £5 each to cover any possible losses in connection with the jubilee celebrations. Mr. Evans himself offered to be one of the guarantors.
