SALE OF DISEASED STOCK
PREVENTIVE MEASURES SOUGHT. FARMERS’ UNION AT INGLEWOOD. The main topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Inglewood , branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday night was the prevention of the sale by auction of diseased pigs and also. culled cows. The president, Mr. Marsh, said a movement, had been begun in the matter of cows. It was suggested that culled cows ' should be branded at the yards with a sulphuric acid brand so as to prevent their being sold later as good cows. It was difficult to say, however, whether this would be successful, for it all dedepended on the honesty of the first seller. < It was difficult to say whether the sale of diseased pigs could be prevented. , One could generally tell whether olden* pigs were diseased but weaner pigs would not show any signs of disease till older. Probably the only preventative would be to have all farms where pigs were bred inspected at intervals to see whether there were any diseased sows. That would ba a very costly matter. It wav decided to mention the matter at the next meeting of the North Taranaki executive.
