COMBINED INSTITUTE PICNIC
SUCCESFUL DAY AT ONAERO. Brilliant sunshine on the first day of February drew about 300 people to the Onaero River beach to attend the first annual combined picnic of the Tikorangi, Waitara, Huirangi and Motunui Womens Institutes. The picnic was an outstanding success. The starting and judging of the majority of events was done by Messrs. F. Rackley (Motunui), H. Whitehead (Tikorangi )and J. Robinson (Motunui). Races for children were held by the women s committee, and bags of sweets . ana ba - loons were distributed. A chip heater lent by Mr. Meads, Motunui, provided hot water, and a tent lent by Mrs. • Sarten, Tikorangi, was used as a ladies dressing-room. Following were the results of ev^ tSLadies’ swimming, prize donated by Mrs. Cave, Motunui), Miss L. Fletcher (Tikorangi) 1, Miss P. Parli (Motunui) 2; mens swimming (prize donated by Mrs. Sarten), J. Parli (Motunui) 1, F. JupP (Tikorangi) 2; stepping the chain, ladies, Mrs. Wood (Inglewood); men Mr. K. Lye (Tikorangi); married ladies, hrst event, Mrs. P. Rackley (Motunui) 1; second event, Mrs. Roy Jury (Tikorangi) 1, three-legged race, institute members, Mrs. Roy Jury and Miss N. Morey (Tikorangi) 1; three-legged race, open, Misses N. and N. Parli (Motunui) 1; tug-of-war, Tikorangi beat Waitara, Motunui beat Huirangi, final, Tikorangi (Reg Jury, V. Jones, Widmer, A. Crawford and Megaw) beat Motunui; boys’ tug-of-war, Tikorangi (Bob Hills, F. Jupp, Reg Newman, G. Fairbrother and C. Pragmore) 1; Waitara institute tug-of-war, Mesdames Cummings, Gardiner, McCauley, Allen .and Limmer; young women’s tug-of-war, | Motunui (Misses T. Cole, P. Parli, Nola [Parli, M. Cole and N.
