MOTOR CRASHES INTO CREEK

ARCHDEACON HAGGITT BRUISED. ON WAY TO TAKE NEW CHARGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, January 29. A sensational accident occurred at a sharp corner over the Greenburn stream, 18 miles from Kaikoura on the inland route, early last evening, when a motorcar driven by Miss Norah Haggitt, .who was accompanied by the Ven. Archdeacon P. 8.. Haggitt and Mrs. Haggitt, skidded, ran over a steep bank and plunged into the creek bed about 100 feet belpw. The body-work of the car was smashed and every window broken, and the car came to rest upside down in the bed of the creek. None of the occupants was badly hurt. Archdeacon Haggitt suffered slightly from bruises, while Mrs. Haggitt received a large cut on the temple. Miss Haggitt suffered a severe bruise on the left ankle. Heavy rain was falling at the time of the accident and visibility was bad. Archdeacon Haggitt was on his way from Christchurch to take up his new charge as Dean of Nelson following 18 years as vicar of St. Mary’s Church, Merivale.
