OBJECTION TO MASTER CHOSEN. — £- -fV ' STEAMER GALE DELAYED IN PORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, January 29. When the Canterbury Steam Shipping Co. endeavoured to obtain a crew for the steamer Gale, which has just completed an overhaul, there was no response. The seamen and firemen gave no official reason , for the action, and a representative of the company would not divulge any information regarding the trouble. A report is current, however, that the crew would not sail with the master selected by the company. The Wellington Seamen’s Union was communicated with, and it is understood that a reply was received asking the union men to sign on. Yesterday morning/the men held an informal meeting at the Lyttelton office of the union, but nothing further eventuated. To-day the Gale is still awaiting a crew.
