MAORI CEREMONY ON EAST COAST. BIG HUI HELD AT TOKOMARU BAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Jan. 25. A hui, attended by Maoris from all parts of the east coast, is being held at Tokomaru Bay for the purpose of opening a new meeting house which was elaborately carved by a band of workers under the direction of Mr. Hamilton, Rotorua. The Rarotongan party, which is touring New Zealand, on arrival yesterday evening was accorded an enthusiastic welcome by 300 haka dancers. The ceremony of the purification of the building followed, and this morning the lifting of the tapu.
