INFURIATED TIGER ATTACKS

AUSTRALIAN MAULED IN INDIA. Brisbane, Jan. 12. Captain James Patrick, founder of the shipping firm of James Patrick and Co., Ltd., who a few months ago, accompanied by his wife, left Australia to shoot tigers in India and lions in South Africa, has had an exciting adventure in India, in which a companion was badly mauled by a wounded tiger. The information was brought to Brisbane on Wednesday by his son, Mr. Kenneth Patrick, a director of the shipping company. With Mr. Maitland, a forestry officer in the Berar district, Captain Patrick was stalking a large tiger, about two miles from Chikalda. The tiger had been badly wounded, but it sprang at Mr. Maitland from some lantana about 12ft. in height. Mr. Maitland managed to fire a shot at the tiger as it sprang at him, but the infuriated animal clawed his arms and legs and bit his waist. Captain Patrick expects to return to Sydney in May.
