80TH BIRTHDAY HONOURED

MRS. GOODACRE, NEW PLYMOUTH.

To honour Mrs. F. Goodacre on the occasion. of her 80th birthday, Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Blackhall gave a party on a recent evening at their residence, “Whitiora,” Wallace Place, New Plymouth. At supper a birthday cake laden with 80 candles was a feature.

Kindliness and good nature were Mrs. Goodacre’s outstanding characteristics, said Mr. Blackhall in offering congratulations. Mr. Blackball had known Mrs. Goodacre for nearly half a century. Her numerous friends were happy to know that she enjoyed such good health and was still in possession of all her faculties. The speaker concluded with wishes for Mrs. Goodacre’s future health and happiness. Mrs. Goodacre was accorded musical honours when she rose to acknowledge gifts and good wishes. Born at Leicester, England, Mrs. Goodacre (nee Mary Ann Ebourn) arrived at Auckland by the sailing ship Assaye in 1874. She resided there for several years, and later at Napier, Dannevirke and New Plymouth, where her husband was engaged in business with Hs brother at the Egmont boot factory for 23 years. When Mr. Goodacre died at Dannevirke six years ago Mrs. Goodacre returned to New Plymouth. She has one son (Mr. A. E. Goodacre, New Plymouth) and two daughters (Mrs. W. H. Howlett, New Plymouth and Mrs. A. Porter, Dannevirke), six grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. A flower garden, in which she takes an active interest, is one of Mrs. Goodacre’s chief pleasures.,
