Y.M.C.A. CAMP CLOSED

ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY ENDS. FAREWELL BANQUET AT OAKURA. The Y.M.C.A. “Abnaki” boys’ camp that has been conducted at Oakura by Mi*. J. H. Ledgerwood, assisted by Mr. A. Lucas, will close this morning. Though the weather has not been all that could be wished the 32 boys who have been campers have had an enjoyable holiday and are leaving the camp in the best of health. It is intended to make the camp an annual fixture as part of the functions of the New Plymouth branch of the Y.M.C.A. „ K • Last night a “banquet” was held in the Oakura school, which was decorated for the occasion, to wind up the camp for the year. Mr. Lucas was chairman and Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mr. Way were guests. Four toasts were proposed by the boys—“Abnaki” (Peter Dixon); The Camp “Mother,” Mrs. McConnell (Elton Everiss); The Guests (Evan Davies); Y.M.C.A. (Digger Weston); the guests and Mrs. McConnell responded. During the period the camp has been established there have been many visitors, including Dr. and Mrs. G. H. Thomson, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. List, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Weston, Mrs. Flannagan, Mrs. Mawkes, Mr. and Mrs. Bridger and others interested in Y.M.C.A. work among boys. On Sundays service has been held in camp by Mr. Ledgerwood, and the days have been filled with tramping, swimming, drill and games, ten boys having qualified for the camp emblem” for all round development in camping. The authorities desire to express thanks to many friends for interest shown in the camp and particularly to Mr. ana Mrs. Smith, Oakura, for the use of their grounds and swimming pool.
