CAPE EGMONT GOLF CLUB
SUCCESSFUL DANCE ENDS SEASON.
To mark the end of a successful inaugural season and to celebrate the presentation of the first series of trophies, the Cape Egmont Golf Club held a dance in the Pungarehu hall last night. Despite counter-attractions there was a splendid attendance, including visitors from Opunake, Okato and New Plymouth. The music was played by Miss E. Gilhooley, with extras by Mr. A. Roots, who was also master of ceremonies.
Before supper, which was served by the ladies’ committee of the club, the trophies won during the sea/zn were presented as follows: Cape Egmont Cup, men’s handicap, G. Pukehika, runner-up A. Roots; Gray Cup, ladies’ handicap, Mrs. E. H. Gray, runner-up Miss P. Stempa; Tahoma Cup, mixed foursomes (handicap), Miss P. Smith and K. P. Tompkins, runner-up, Miss E. Fleming and A. Thorne.
In calling on Mrs. J. Harte to present the trophies, the president (Mr. R. B. Fleming) stated that the club had been in existence for only three months, and it could claim to have as successful a club as many that had been in existence for several years. The club already had 50 members and had been fortunate in having enthusiasts who had provided it with the land on which it played free of cost and had provided the club with several trophies for which there had been keen competition. He expressed thanks to the donors of the trophies and io Messrs. J. Graham and P. Brophy for the use of the links.
The committee responsible for the Mesdames E. H. Gray, J. W. Priest and P. Brennan, Miss B. Fleming, Messrs. R. B. Fleming, J. Hartey, A. Roots and P. C. Smith (hon secretary).
