STONE CRASHES DOWN WELL
MAN AT BOTTOM INJURED, ACCIDENT AT PUNGAREHU. A boulder weighing 20 pounds falling from a height of 30 feet resulted in Mr. H. Meyenberg, Gaine Street, New Plymouth, receiving an injury, the nature of which has not yet been determined, to his right shoulder blade. The accident took place about 3.30 on Friday afternoon while Mr. Meyenberg was working at the bottom of an 80-foot well on Pungarehu Road. He was excavating, and successive blastings had apparently, dislodged the stone, -which narrowly missed his head. The well was only 3ft. 6in. in diameter. Suffering great pain Mr. Meyenberg returned to New Plymouth by car immediately, having, owing to a friend who accompanied him being unable to drive, to steer the car the whole journey. He was admitted to hospital, being discharged on Sunday after successive Xray operations had failed to locate the trouble. •It is believed a small bone inside the shoulder blade has been fractured. At present he is being treated as an out-patient at the hospital, and is still suffering great pain.
