NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS. Miss A. Voullaire is leaving on ‘a visit to Opunake and Kaponga. Mrs. L. Curtis has returned from a visit to Wellington.

Mrs. S. E. Thornton left at the beginning of the week for Wellington, where she will in future reside. Mies M. Campbell left on Monday to spend the holidays in Nelson. Mrs. E. Shaw and family left by car yesterday morning to spend a camping holiday at Mercury Bay. Miss K. Liken has returned to her home at Oamaru for the holidays. Miss Marjorie Sladden returned from Dannevirke on Monday.

Miss Nan Athey left on Monday to spend the holidays at Levin. Mrs. C. M. Hill and Miss Miriam Hill have returned from a short visit to Havelock North.

Mrs. F. H. Brown, Inglewood, is the guest of Mrs. Geoffrey Strang. Mrs. J. Johnston has returned from a short visit to Auckland, and Mrs. J. Johnston, Wellington, is her guest. Mrs. W. H. Moyes left on Tuesday on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs. T. C. List has returned from Havelock North.

The Misses Margaret and Nancy Moyes and Miss Vera Sanderson are spending a camping holiday at Everett Road, Inglewood.

Missions Webb left yesterday for Wellington.

Mrs. A. W. Diprose will leave to-day to spend a camping holiday at Tataraimaka.

Mrs. G. Morrall has returned from a visit to Wellington.

Mrs. Geoffrey Strang returned last night from a visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. C. P. Smith arrived on Monday from Wellington to take up her residence at New Plymouth.

Mrs. J. Leggat and family are spending a camping holiday at Everett Road, Inglewood. ,

Miss E. Bruce, of the staff of the Girls’ High School, will leave for Wellington to-day.

Mrs. J. A. Valentine will leave to-day to spend the holidays at Christchurch.

Mrs. Hough, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. George List for the Christmas holidays.

Mrs. Norman Fitzherbert, who has b66n at New Plymouth for several weeks, left on Monday to spend the Christmas holidays at Palmerston North. Mrs. Abbott will leave by to-night’s express for Auckland, where she will join her sister, Mrs. Beatson. Mrs.’ F. H. Blundell, Mrs. Beatson Blundell and Miss Eileen Blundell will leave by car this morning to spend the holidays at Auckland. Mrs. C. H. Weston and Miss Claudia Weston, Wellington, are spending a holiday at New Plymouth as the guests of Mrs. H. S. Weston.

Mrs. G. White and Miss Alison White have returned from Wellington after bidding farewell to Miss Evelyn White, who sailed for England by the Rotorua last week. A party was held at the home of Mrs. Harrold Greenwood on Saturday evening, the guest of honour; being Miss Vera Moginie, who will leave New Plymouth shortly to take up residence at Wellington. During the evening a presentation was made to Miss Moginie by her pupils, who expressed regret at her departure, but wished her success in her future sphere.* ENGAGEMENTS. Clark, Repton Street, Merivale, Christchurch. 7 MIDHIRST KITCHEN EVENING. Mrs. R. Hogg gave a kitchen evening in the Midhirst Oldfellows’ hall on Thursday in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss E. Rogers. The evening was spent in games and dancing. The winners of the games were Misses Toomes and Rigers. Miss L. Guthrie gave elocutionary items. Mr. C. C. Phillips was master of ceremonies and the music was supplied by Messrs C. C. Phillips, E. Markby, Mesdames Boyles, Costelli, Misses Howard (2), and Wildon. Mr. C. C. Phillips on behalf of Mrs. Hogg thanked all present for making the evening a success and wished Miss Rogers success in her new sphere of life. Before the gifts were opened Miss Peggy Hogg presented Miss Rogers with a bouquet. Mr. F. Clarke on behalf of Miss Rogers thanked Mrs. Hogg and the others present. Miss Rogers was the recipient of many presents.

OPUNAKE SOCIAL EVENING.

A social evening was held in the Opunake Parish hall on Friday in honour of Miss W. Mowrie, who is shortly to be married. The evening was organised by the Girl Guides and the Guide committee of which Miss Mowrie has been secretary for five years. The time » was passed in games and competitions. A pianoforte solo by Jean Hughson and a violin solo by Mrs. T. N. Watt were enjoyed. After supper Mrs. T. N. Watt, president of the Girl Guide Association, presented Miss Mowrie with a china supper set from the Guide committee. On behalf of the girl guides, Jean Hughson presented to Miss Mowrie a hot-water jug and a sweets dish, Mrs. R. Ritchie on behalf qf the Presbyterian ladies’ guild, made a presentation of a set of jugs in appreciation of her help during flower shows. Mrs. C. A. Smith presented Miss Mowrie with a basket of bathroom articles on behalf of friends present and voiced their best wishes. Miss and Mrs. Mowrie briefly returned thanks. Among the guests were Mesdames T. N. Watt, C. H. Marcroft, D. Ross, F. Julian, R. Ritchie, A. Lambie, T. Hammond, R. Malcolm, K. Mowrie, C. A. Smith, S. feaver, G. C. Clouston, C. Clare, Hill, E. G.
