WAVERLEY DISTRICT NEWS

NURSE HORRELL FAREWELLED. A large number of Plunket Society members and mothers gathered in St. Stephen’s Sunday school hall, Waverley, On Friday night to bid farewell to Nurse Horrell, who is shortly leaving the district. Recitations and songs were given by Mrs. P. V. Graves and a very happy evening was spent. Mrs. D. McMillan was the winner of a novel competition. Mrs. Mulholland, president of the Waverley Plunket Society, in presenting Nurse Horrell with a pewter dish, expressed the society’s regret m losing a so thoroughly efficient and so understanding nurse as Miss Horrell. Mrs. Mountford on behalf of the mothers endorsed Mrs. Mulholland’s remarks and wished Nurse Horrell every happiness In her home at Christchurch.

Sunday School Prizegiving. St. Stephen’s Anglican hall was packed on Friday afternoon when a large number of parents and friends gathered to witness the annual Sunday school prizegiving. Mr. Gardiner reported a record attendance for the year, as was shown by the fact that nearly all the children received prizes. Afterwards games were enjoyed and tea was provided by the mothers.

Record Schnapper Season. Owing to the warm settled weather and the calm seas schnapper have been particularly plentiful this year at Waverley. Much enthusiasm is being shown by the local fishermen, the cliffs from which the fishing is done being often crowded. On Saturday large shoals of kahawai were close inshore.
