URENUI GENERAL NEWS
WOODWORK POPULAR AT SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Urenui School committee was held on Monday, when there was a full attendance of members. The headteacher in her monthly report stated the roll number was 73, and the average attendance in October was 68.2. The woodwork classes had commenced. The bench was satisfactory but a small plane was needed. The children were taking a keen interest in their new departure, and there was no difficulty in arranging for the classes to use the bench in turn. The potato plots were showing splendid growth, and the grounds in general were in. very good order. The school mart held recently returned a profit of £4. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded all those parents who assisted. An additional prize for the best essay on rearing a calf has been donated, and has been won by Margaret Dowman. It was resolved to hold the school concert on December 20. Personal. Mrs. A. T. Vaugham, who has been spending a short holiday at Auckland, has returned. Mr. W. Jonas, who was operated on for appendicitis in the New Plymouth hospital, is making satisfactory progress. Mr. F. Phillips is visiting the Waikato district. Mrs. L. Rattenbury is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wilson and Mr. R. Wilson are spending a short holiday at Auckland. Mrs. A. J. Thompson is visiting Auckland. Mr. R. Simmonson, of the Urenui post office staff, is relieving at the Okoke post office. Mr. M. Tullock, of the Hawera post office staff, is relieving at Urenui.
