TENNIS COMPETITIONS. The Egmont Shield tennis competition match between Okaiawa and tho Mangatoki this week hap been postponed. Okaiawa was unable to travel on. Thursday, the due day, and Mangatoki could not get team together on Saturday on account of ensilage operations. In a ladies” button match Mrs. A. E. Mahon 50 beat Miss N. Astbury (challenger) 46. The handicaps were nine minus and five minus respectively. In the ladder matches given below the name of the challenger is given first: Mrs. H. Lambie beat Miss G. Linn 6 4, Miss M. Bowden beat Miss P. Parker 6—3, Miss N» Gatenby beat MiSs N. Davies 6—2, S. Morgan beat S. Marx 6—2, S. Reeves beat J. Lambie 6—3, S. Reeves beat H. Linn 6—3, C. Gatenby beat C. Pease 6—3. Personal.
Mr. E. J. Gifford, a member of the Hawera Hospital Board and the county council, was taken by ambulance on Wednesday to the Hawera hospital for medical examination and observation as a result of complications following an influenza attack. The. reports to hand are satisfactory. Influenza is very prevalent in the district at present, particularly among adults.
