TO=DAY’S FEILDING RACES
THURSDAY’S FORM AS GUIDE SIMILAR TRACK PROBABLE. REVIEW OF THE FIRST DAY. (Special to News.) ; Mister Gamp was always a long way back in the Waituna Hurdle Race at ' Feilding. He did his work satisfactorily , { but did not show sufficient speed to get > within striking distance of the opposi- ■ t i° n - Million looked a likely winner of the ■ hurdle race but she crashed heavily at the last fence. Apparently she was not greatly affected by the fall as she was paid up for in the jumping event on the second day. Million, however, is no champion. Ruanui will improve with* racing. His performance among the jumpers on the first day at Feilding was satisfactory, and he should soon win a hurdle race. . Manuiri was going exceptionally well in Thursday’s hurdle race when he blundered at the hurdle about half a mile i from home and came to grief. He is ' taking a while to realise expectations, ’ but his turn will come. I ' Nothing finished better in Thursday’s ’ hurdle race than the Hawera horse I March Alone. March Alone is only a • novice jumper and his running gave L hope of better things to follow. A fair race went to the credit of Calydon.' He is a good galloper, who, well placed, should win races. Boudoir ’has been working smartly. The ’race she had will sharpen her up. Two ’ improving maidens seen in action were Wyndale and Widden. Both showed speed and were in the battle all the way in Thursday’s big field. . Mr. F. N. Sampson’s mare Courtega , ran away with the Trial Plate at Feild- , ing, and there is little doubt she will • win hack races this summer. ! Aga Khan ran an excellent race in . the Cup and should soon win a good r handicap. He was only a head behind , the winner in a race run in fast time. . The other Hawera horse Carfex also . ■ went ’ really well, finishing within a :head of Aga Khan. In these two Ha- : wera possesses two highly useful han- : dicap horses ■ who should at least win their share. • Inflation was sore before the race for -the Feilding Stakes and could not hit ’ ■out at the start. Eventually he ran a fair race, .but afterwards he was very ’ dame. The hard condition of the course > was., against him. I . Not only is Ida Merling entitled to ' I 'credit for the manner in which she ■ -won the Kowhai Hack Handicap, but > -her rider, ,L. G. Morris, must also be ■ .congratulated on the ability he displayed > 'in getting her home first despite the > fact that one of the reins broke soon • -after the start. It was a performance • that was not overlooked by the crowd on the stewards’ stand, but many of the general public were unaware of what . had occurred. Thursday’s race will improve Pango, who is a good hack/ Neither Royal Dash nor Lady Spy had the best of luck on the first day. , They should not be forgotten. Cadland was a bad last early in the • race for the Flying Handicap, but he i finished fast and may stage a return to - , form. Amyril struck trouble in her race on ; Thursday and the best was not seen of • her. ' TO-DAY’S FORM HORSES. [ (Special to News.)
