KORU-KIRIHAU NEWS
A cloud of smoke has marked the whereabouts of the Kirihau settlement during the past few days as a result of the activities of workers engaged in “logging up” over a fairly large area. Children in the district are lamenting the fact that the Company did not see fit to commence operation in time for Guy Fawkes Day, but at night the numbers of small fires are a striking sight. The mill-house vacated by a family during the past week was dismantled during the week-end. Messrs Robertson, Allen and Mackay visited the Koru school on Wednesday in connection with the judging for the Boys and Girls Calf-Rearing Clubs. Six calves were entered by local children. One girl was unfortunate in that she could not induce her pet to cross the bridge over the Kirihau stream, but the judges went to considerable trouble to see that the competitor was not penalised —“The mountain going to Mahommet” as one expressed it. Church services were held in the Koru Hall by Canon Newbold on Sunday. Mr. R. E. Wells spent the week-end at Hawera.
