WORK OF THE SECRETARY

MR. S. E. NIELSON’S ENDEAVOURS. HIS WORK FOR AVIATION. When the scroll of members of the New Plymouth Aero Club whb have done their greatest work for aviation is prepared at the top of the list will be placed the name of Mr. S. E. Nielson. Mr. Nielson has been secretary of the New Plymouth Clqb since its inception, and he is also secretary of the New Zealand Aero Club and the Western Federation. In every improvement carried out at Bell Block, in the drawing up of the Airport Bill, in fact in everything connected with the club and aviation in general in the province Mr. Nielson has had a hand. It was his work that brought Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to tire Bell Block aerodrome, and it is . largely the result of his whole-hearted endeavours that Mr. C. T. P. Ulm lands there tomorrow. Ever since the flight proposed by Ulm was mooted Mr. Nielson has been working, putting before the famous Australian - the'claims of New Plymouth as a terminal to an AustraliaNew Zealand flight. His efforts have met with success. Though he is not a pilot himself, Mr. Nielson is fully alive to the possibilities of air transport. His flight with Sir Charles Kngsford Smith across the Tasman was one of his greatest experiences, and notable in one way—it showed Mr. Nielson to be a journalist of some ability, and his articles on the flight in the Daily News were amongst the best descriptive matter that has as yet been written on air travel in this part of the world.
