CONTRACTS FOR 38 HOUSES MUCH PREPARATORY WORK DONE. EACH HOME IN FIVE-ACRE SECTION TWO SAWMILLS ON FULL TIME. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Oct 13. Contracts have now been let for the erection of 38 residences on an area of 250 acres of harbour board endowment land for the Napier village settlement promoted by the Government under the small farms scheme. The sections on which the homes are to be erected are approximately five acres each. The settlers have been chosen from the ranks of married unemployed. Much work has already been done on the area, including the formation of roads, ploughing of land, , planting of crops, fencing, and sinking artesian wells. The contract time for the completion of the dwellings, each constructed to the requirements of the individual families, is ten weeks. As a sequel to the letting of the contracts and the work promoted by No. 10 scheme, two sawmills in the district have been place on full-time engagement.
