VISIT OF H.M.S. DIOMEDE NEW PLYMOUTH WELCOME. APPRECIATION OF COMPLIMENT. Official calls were, made yesterday morning in connection with , the visit to New Plymouth of HJ4.S. Diomede. Messrs. P. E. Stainton (deputy-Mayor), F. Amoore (New Plymouth Borough Council), F. T. Bellringer (town clerk), C. E. Bellringer (New Plymouth Harbour Board), Major A. E. Conway (N.Z.S.C.), Captain F. L. Hunt (N.Z.S.C.), Captain G. H. Thomson (N.Z.M.C.), and Captain O. F. Mclntyre (Harbour Board) waited on Captain C. M. Graham. Later these calls were ’ returned at the Harbour Board offices. Mr. Stainton extended a welcome to H. Diomede on her visit to New Plymouth and assured Captain Graham that the residents of New Plymouth would extend every hospitality to members of the complement of the warship during her stay at New Plymouth. New Plymouth was only too glad to extend the same welcome that had been received by the warship in the other towns included i her itinerary. It was fully recognised what a guarantee of safety the Navy meant to New Zealand. Captain Graham expressed pleasure at the warm welcome accorded the ship at New Plymouth. Officers and men fully appreciated all that had been done to make their stay a pleasant one, he said.
