CARNIVAL AT BLENHEIM
VISITORS THRONG THE TOWN. I FINANCE FOR WATER SCHEME. By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, September 3. Blenheim is gay with thousands of flags, streamers and bunting for the opening this afternoon of a week’s carnival, The town is already thronged with visitors, and all the hotels and boarding houses are booked up, though most here had adopted annexes in which they had “shake-downs” available. The carnival spirit was enhanced this morning by news that Cabinet had agreed to a cash subsidy of £6OOO towards the Seddon water scheme. The total cost of this scheme it £42,000. Die Unemployment Board is providing labour valued at £15,000, and’ the Government £6OOO cash, leaving settlers to find the balance, which they are prepared to do.
