CHOIRS FESTIVAL AT HEREFORD. 213TH. RECITAL OPENS ON SUNDAY British Wireless. Rugby, Aug. SO. The choirs festival, one of the most notable musical events in Britain, will begin with the 213th. recital in Hereford Cathedral on Sunday. Sir Edward Elgar will conduct two of the oratorios, “The Dream of Geroniius” and “The Kingdom.” The three choirs of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester take part in the festival. Besides the two works mentioned in the Official Wireless message the following will be performed: “Elijah,” “Three Choral Hymns” (Vaughan Williams), Mass in B Minor, Brahms’ third symphony, “Choral Symphony,” St. Paul’s Voyage to Melita” (Dyson, first performance), Brahms* “Requiem,” “Sursum Corda” (Martin Shaw, first performance), “The Shepherds of the Delectable Mountains” (Vaughan Williams), Symphony for strings (Reed, first performance), and a selection from the “Messiah.” There' will be an orchestral concert in the Kemble and a chamber concert in the Shire Hall. The London Symphony Orchestra has been engaged and Dr. Percy Hull will conduct. The organists will be Sir Ivor Atkins and Mr. H. W. Sumsion.
