RUGBY LEAGUE IN TARANAKI
VISIT FROM CITY ROVERS TEAM. MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE HELD. A meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Rugby League was held at New Plymouth last night. Those present were Messrs. J. R. Sceats (acting-chair-man), G. Hooker, M. Julian, W. St. George, W. Lewis, G. Blanchard, T. Smith, G. O. Smith, J. Abbott, H. W. Lawrence, R. Coles, W. J. Smith and A. Adam (secretary). The Hawke’s Bay Rugby League advised that it would be unable to send a representative team to New Plymouth to play a return fixture with Taranaki, Appreciation of the manner in which the Auckland representative team was entertained at New Plymouth on the occasion of the match with Taranaki was expressed in a letter from the Auckland Rugby League. The New Zealand Rugby League advised that negotiations with the St. George Club, Sydney, for a tour of New Zealand were not concluded and it was still impossible to state whether the team would be able to visit New Plymouth on September 16. . Mr. Adam explained that the PukeIcura Park sportsground committee required to give two weeks’ notice in case of an alteration of sportsground allocations.
The City Rovers club, Auckland, offered to send a team to New Plymouth to play a match on September 9. The offer was accepted by the executive. It was decided that the play-off between Western Suburbs and Inglewood, which teams drew last Saturday in the final of the Lile Shield, be held at New Plymouth next Saturday. Eastern Suburbs will play Waitara at Waitara in the other senior fixture. As a curtainraiser it was decided to play Western' Suburbs versus Waitara juniors at Waitara.
