RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH.

SOUTHLAND VERSUS CANTERBURY. In view of the forthcoming southern tour of the Taranaki Rugby representatives considerable interest is being taken in to-day’s Ranfurly Shield match between Southland and Canterbury at Christchurch. Taranaki has already challenged Canterbury for the shield, the match being sent down for September 16. If, however, Southland lifts the shield this afternoon, the SouthlandTaranaki match at Invercargill will be a Ranfurly Shield match. Taranaki is interested in addition because D. G. Grant, the former High School, Old Boys, Patea and Taranaki representative will be filling his position as a five-eighth for Southland, whilst A. H. Andrews, the former New Plymouth High School forward, and G. Howell, the Urenui and Clifton forward, will be in the Canterbury pack.
