Mr. C. H. Sorenson was yesterday elected chairman of directors of the Mangorei Dairy Company in succession to Mr. G. Marsh.
The death has occurred of Mr. H. T. Pooley, director of the Empire Producers’ Organisation, reports a London cable.
Professor Maxwell Walker has been elected chairman of the Professorial Board of the Auckland University College in place of Professor C. W. Egerton, whose term of office has expired. Dame Clara Butt arrived at Fremantle by the Strathaird, a Press Association cable reports. Dame Clara is recuperating from a recent operation, and it: is uncertain whether she will give concerts, but she is to spend several months in Australia and will- then visit New Zealand and America, .- ■ '
Miss Alison Kirkcaldie, Wellington, who was runner-up for the Fogarty scholarship conferred by the British Drama League, will leave for London in the Tainui on August 23 for study ,at the central school for speech training and dramatic art. Miss Kirkcaldie won the Woodford' House Dramatic Cup m her last year at school for her performance of "The Piper,” and since then has taken part in many amateur productions, including “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” “Windows,” “Outward Bound, "Nine Till Six,” and “A Romantic Young Lady.” She recently produced a one-act play and a dialogue for the Repertory Theatre Society and the “Eastern Prologue” for the Plunket Society’s ball.
