Rec. 10 p.m. Havana, Aug. 14. Renewed outbursts of looting and arson following the overthrow of the Cuban Government impelled the military authorities to order soldiers to fire on all persons violating the public order. ' . From midnight yesterday until six this evening 22 Porristas were killed in Havana streets or on the roof-tops. Twentyeight others were captured and turned over to the military. The latter promised the populace and A.B.C. officials to kill them as public enemies after quick court-martials. With this accomplished the passive strike subsided and the streets and shops were crowded with enthusiastic and joyous purchasers, and business shook itself into smiling activity. The mob’s final act was to sack a million dollars worth of General Machado’s property. Then everybody felt better and it looked as if the violence had ended. The banks will resume operations on Tuesday. The United States Government on Monday night withdrew one of the two destroyers in Havana harbour, indicating an improvement in the condition of the Cuban capital.
