TWO SENTENCED TO DEATH
OUTRAGES AT CHITTAGONG.
WOMEN’S LIFE TRANSPORTATION.

Surjya Sen and Tarakeshwar Dastidar were sentenced to death at Chittagong after a trial arising out of the notorious armoury raid murders. Miss Kalpana Dutt was sentenced to life transportation, which means imprisonment outside Bengal.
Surjya was regarded as the master mind of the Chittagong conspiracy and the: leader of the revolutionaries?.
Surjya Sen, alleged to be the chief of the Bengal terrorist conspiracy, and the Chittagong armoury raids, for ,whom the Bengal Government offered a reward of £750, was arrested with other terrorists at Chittagong on February 16, Seven men, including two British, were killed at Chittagong on April 18, 1930, when a mob of revolutionaries attacked and destroyed the railway and police armouries, Chittagong, the second port.of Bengal, is the headquarters of the Assam and Bengal Railway and the centre of large European business centres. . The revolutionaries carried out the raid in motor-cars, four of which were discovered abandoned many miles from the city. It was estimated that 60 took part in the raid and a quantity of rifles and ammunition was seized.
A period of lawlessness in the city followed the raid and the Government promulgated drastic ordinances to put down terrorism.
