THE MAYORAL BALL

PREPARATIONS WELL IN HAND. People of North Taranaki and many farther afield are looking forward to the mayoral ball in aid of charity which is to be held in the Coronation and Agricultural Halls, New Plymouth, on Thursday, August 24. With two large halls and three orchestras provision is being made to accommodate a large crowd; and indications point to all the space being required. It is a stupendous undertaking to transform these two huge halls into dancing halls of splendour, but the decorative. scheme designed by an expert artist and faithfully carried but by will-; ing bands will with its blending of lighting and artistic colour effects provide a scene to be remembered. An army of men, mostly volunteers, has been engaged preparing the floor, special brushes and smoothing apparatus, both horse and motor-drawn, having been utilised. The ladies have the supper arrangements well in hand, provision being made to accommodate 500 at a sitting, whilst some items in the menu include 360 trifles and 560 pounds of fruit salad. The . '• music will be provided by two of Taranaki’s best orchestras, with a string band to play the extras. Thanks to the support that is being given there are about 30 valuable prizes to be awarded, and the distribution is being so arranged that dancers and non-dancers will have a chance of securing them.
