HOME OF THE TEN TRIBES

ST. ANDREW’S LANTERN LECTURE. SCENES IN T&E HOLY LAND. There was a good attendance at St. Andrew’s Hall, New Plymouth, last night, when the Rev. J. D. McLennan Wilson delivered a very interesting lantern lecture on the Holy Land and its associations. The proceeds were to ba devoted to the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union. Mr. Wilson commenced his lecture with a description of the general topography of tire country, giving a number of views of the central area which in days of old was occupied by the ten tribes of Israel. He continued with views of various historical sites, some of which, as he said, had been the scene of war from the days of the tribes, through the Napoleonic expedition to the Great War. A series of slides showing the principal villages, towns and cities of Palestine, with accompanying explanations of their associations, was followed by scenes portraying the agricultural and pastoral pursuits of the inhabitants in the various districts. Mr. Wilson gave his listeners a wealth of interesting detail regarding the scenes cast on the screen, and his discourses on a land 'of which every foot has some historical or religious significance were ably supported by the excellence of the slides shown. At the conclusion of the address thanks to the lecturer was expressed on behalf of the audience and of the P.W.M.U. by Dr. P. C. Davie.
