MOKAU DISTRICT NEWS
HALL COMMITTEE MEETING. The annual meeting of the Mokau hall committee was held recently, all the members being present. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr. S. Pratt; secretary, Mr. F. G. Northern; committee, Messrs. H. P. Hansen, C. F. Widt, T. Sullivan, S. Sheen, M. Pratt, H. Piko and S. Warren. It was decided to have repairs to the hall effected and to instal a copper and tank, Euchre Tournament. The final euchre tournament for the raising of funds for the Mokau school was held on Friday evening. There was a good attendance. The prizes for the evening were won by Miss Ida Hansen and Mr. F. Widt, and the points prizes for the last six nights went to Mrs. Hansen and Mr. S. Whitehead. The chairman of the school committee, Mr. F. Widt, presented the prizes and thanked the players, for their assistance to the school funds. Property Recovered.
A gold brooch which, together with about £7 15s in cash, which was missed when the Awakino schoolhouse was entered on July 29, has since been recovered by the Mokau police. The money has not yet been recovered. Whitebait Season.
Several fair catches of whitebait have been made in the Mokau River since the beginning of the month, and prospects appear bright for a good season. It is reported that catches up to about a gallon have been made, which is decidedly good for so early in the season.
