REVIEW OF YEAR’S ACTIVITIES. ' APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. At the annual meeting of the Hawera Jersey Cattle Club last night Mr. C. H. Washer presided over an attendance of about 20, including Mr. Cfc. H r Bell, Oakura, a member of the New Zealand Jersey Council. • . ' The activities of the club had been curtailed during the past difficult period, stated the president’s report. It was hoped as conditions improved to extend the scope and usefulness of the club in the interests of the Jersey breed. A most successful field day had been held on the farm of Mr. R. S. Scown. The Jersey exhibits at the Hawera show were of a very high standard and the accommodation around the ring had been favourably commented upon. Reference was made to the success of the bull fair. Several members had held sales at which good prices were obtained. The financial position was very sat- , isfactory.. Congratulations were offered Mr. Bell upon retaining his seat on the New Zealand council, and Mr. R. J. Linn, New Plymouth, for the services he had rendered the club and the breed. Officers elected were: President, Mr. C. H. Washer; vice-presidents, Mr. R. S. Scown; committee, Messrs. J. Nicolson (Kaupokonui), S. A. Tippetts (Okinawa), H. Tosland (Inaha), J. Pettigrew (Pihama) and L. F. Bell (Mokoia); auditor, Mr. H. A. Lennon. A review of the activities of the association was given by Mr. Bell. Songs were sung by Mr. W. G. Simpson, with Mr. R. F. Page at the piano. Supper was served by the Rewa management. WAITOTARA NEWS. FOOTBALL UNDER DIFFICULTIES. The trial game in the Wairoa SubUnion district on Saturday was played in a deluge of rain. Needless to say the handling of the ball with any degree of accuracy was out of the question and the selectors, Messrs Stewart and Cameron, found that they were unable to choose the final fifteen on that day’s play. The same players and emergencies picked to play on Saturday are accordingly . asked to meet on the Waverley Domain next Saturday. Following are the teams:— Probables: J. Boswell, J. McClenaghan, R. Carey, P. Neilson, H. Walker, W. Zimmerman, R. Broughton, H. Rawson, E. Ford, J. Smith, T. Hooper, A. Flintoff, F. Stewart, F. Matthews. R. Hair.
Possibles: H. Abraham, C. Cunningham, A. Murphy, Henderson, M. Campbell, J. Davis, J.' Gray, S. Wilson, J. McDonald, M. Hammond, G. Canterbury, W. Sturmey, G. Wadman, K. Kercona, D. Sturmey. Emergencies (for both teams): —Backs: C. Fitzgibbon, W. Sutton. N. White, E. Williams, R. Matthews. N. Owen. Forwards: W. Dobie, R. Crane, H. McConachy, R. Olds, ~W; Linklater.' The Rauru Football Club held its weekly “at home” on Saturday evening, and despite the inclemency of the weather a large number attended. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. J. Davies (ladies) and Mr. T. McLean (men), and the “booby” prizes by Mrs. M. Grove and Mr. M. Lockett respectively. A tie was recorded in the aggregate, between Mrs. J. Davis and Mr. C. Rangi, the prize being diveded. Moana’s Joy Boys again supplied the dance music, Mr. Kerona acting as master of ceremonies. The Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mr. J. Chayter and partner. A collision occurred between two motor-cars on the Waitotara hill on Saturday night, but no damage of a serious nature was done.
