BOY SCOUTS AT HAWERA.

WORK OF MONTH REVIEWED. Good progress during the past month was reported to a meeting of the Hawera Citizens’ Boy Scout Committee on Monday evening. Mr. W. G. Strange presidC The first report of the newly-formed Tongahoe troop was presented by Scoutmaster Head. Since the first parade on June 30 the numbers had steadily increased. At the parade on July 14 there were 15 present. Two boys had passed the tenderfoot test and several others were ready. Keenness and enthusiasm were being displayed by Scouters and boys, and the work was progressing satisfactorily. The officers are: Acting-Scout-master, E. Guise; assistant Scoutmaster, R. Rigger; patrol leaders, L. Fraser, F. Bibby and R; Head. The average attendance of the Curlew troop was nine, reported Scoutmaster Lay. The first part of the programme was devoted to gymnastic exercises and games, in which the boys showed a keen interest. Patrol-leader Sorenson was adjudged the best-dressed Scout for the month. The Bulldog patrol gained highest marks for the miniature cup.

Three boys had joined the cubs during the month, reported Cubmistress Britland. The average attendance was' 14. Two cubs were qualifying for the first star and several for the second. It was decided to endeavour to obtain a suitable assistant for Scoutmaster Lay.

The resignation of Mr. P. Pinson as assistant Scoutmaster was received. Messrs. V. Gerrand and L. H. Carrel reported that they had visited both troops, finding discipline good and the boys keen and enthusiastic. A tender for the painting of the hall was accepted.
