WEATHER AFFECTS EUCHRE. Owing to weather there was a small attendance at the second of the series of euchre parties and dances held in the Pungarehu hall on Saturday night. In the ladies’ section Mrs. E. H. Gray, Mrs. F. Deacon and Miss E. Gilhooly played off for first and second prizes. Mr. T. Gilhooly won the men’s first prize with Mr. F. Deacon second. Rough weather prevented the Punga-rehu-Te .Kiri basketball match being played last’ Saturday. Next Saturday Pungarehu will meet the Warea team at Warea. The same team as was chosen for last Saturday will play against Warea. Inter-club matches for ths ladies and for the men are being played at the Cape Egmont Golf Club every week-end. The winners in each section receive a golf ball each as a prize. This week-end a party from New Plymouth came and played a friendly match. There was an attendance of 14 at a ladies’ committee meeting held on Wednesday to discuss arrangements for the anniversary ball. Drainage Inadequate. Pungarehu represented a small lake district on Saturday. By evening there were several sections of road inundated, where the drainage was inadequate to cope with the immense volume of water seeking an outlet On the Bayly Road two feet of water was rushing over one culvert. The guage reading for twentyfour hours was two inches. Miss Elizabeth Gilhooly has passed hei final grade music examination with honourable mention.
