ARCHDEACON F.G. EVANS
FIFTY YEARS’ SERVICE.
RECOGNITION BY SYNOD.
Many warm and glowing tributes to the Ven. Archdeacon F. G. Evans, Archdeacon Emeritus of the Diocese of Taranaki, were voiced at the Waikato Diocesan Synod yesterday afternoon, when the following resolution was carried amid applause:— . “That the Synod of the Diocese of Waikato very ■ heartily extends to Archdeacon F. G. Evans L.Th., Archdeacon Emeritus, its congratulations on the attainment of his 50 years of service as a priest of . the Church of God, assures him of its warmest gratitude for so many years of faithful service, and wishes the Archdeacon and his noble wife many years of happy life among us.” After several speakers had recalled the outstanding work performed by the archdeacon over half a century, . the bishop said the Archdeacon’s' unfailing courtesy, constant sympathy and readiness to help anyone in trouble had been a great contribution to the Church in New Zealand. His extraordinary humility was a lesson to every clergyman in the diocese. It was decided to prepare an illuminated address to be signed by all members of Synod and to be presented to Archdeacon Evans. CANON’S DEPARTURE.
A further resolution was passed assuring Canon G. T. Beale, formerly Vicar of’ Stratford, of its warmest gratitude for many years of faithful service in the diocese and extending to him, his wife and child all good wishes for his safe and happy return to England.
