RIVER DEVIATION. It is recognised that a deviation in the river between Niho Niho and Toi Toi would help considerably in allowing flood waters to get away. It was first proposed to put a deviation through Mr. C. F. Manning's property, but on consideration being given the proposal, it seemed that a deviation lower down would be of greater benefit. Mr. A. Dawber, engineer, Public Works Department, Ohura, has sent rough plans of a deviation to the head office at Wellington and is waiting a reply. Meanwhile a detailed plan is being made. Tire deviation will take the form of a spillway and will be put through half a mile from Toi Toi station. It will be approximately 20 chains in length. Three miles of river will be cut off. The deviation will run along the present road, the road being shifted against tire dull. One of the main problems is where to deposit the material taken out. Mr. Dawber feels sure that the proposal will receive a sympathetic hearing. In all probability the work will be done by unemployed when the relief camp is established in Niho Niho early in November to rid the river of willows Dental Clinic Proposed.
